SMSC AND BRITISH VALUES

Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development

and the Promotion of British Values

At Belmont Community Primary School we recognise that a child's personal development plays an important role in their ability to learn and achieve.  As such, we aim to provide opportunities that enable children to explore and develop spiritually, morally, socially and culturally. SMSC is promoted not only through all the subjects of the curriculum but also through the ethos of the school and through the development of positive attitudes, values and planned time for reflection. As a school we undertake Value Days which focus on a specific value allowing children to develop their understanding. SMSC supports, expresses and reinforces the aims of Belmont Community Primary School, valuing all children and staff equally and as individuals.

Throughout lessons and daily school life we also endeavour to develop the fundamental British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. We are keen that our pupils recognize how both the school’s values and their own role within implementing these reflect the wider values of the nation.
