Attendance

GOOD ATTENDANCE MATTERS

The chart below shows very clearly the damaging effect of missing time at school.

At Belmont Primary School we are committed to ensuring that our pupils have every opportunity to develop character, achieve success and realise their full potential. In order for them to secure achievement at Belmont, it is vital that they attend every day, are on time and work hard.

Acceptable Absences

Some illnesses will require children to be absent from school for a short period of time. We understand that this can be unavoidable. For guidance on illnesses and absenteeism please use the Illness Information Poster below, issued on behalf of the Healthier Together Campaign (a joint initiative between the NHS and Public Health). There may be other exceptional circumstances why your child cannot attend school which may include religious observances, medical appointments or other special circumstances.  If this is the case, please contact the school prior to the absence so we can best advise on these.

Holidays

Holiday cannot be authorised during term time and may incur a fine of £60 per child absent and parent. If holidays are taken, we would assess the child’s attendance over the previous 12 months. If the attendance were to drop below 90% because of the holiday, a fine may be issued.

Monitoring

Attendance is closely monitored by the school's attendance team. If a child’s attendance is below 90% we contact families to offer support to improving this. If a child’s attendance drops below 85%, families are invited in to school to discuss this with the attendance team, with the aim of working together on improving the attendance. If teachers have concerns over a child’s attendance this may also be discussed with families during parent’s evenings. Further information can be found on the page links at the top of this page.

If you would like to discuss your child's attendance please contact the school office to make an appointment where one of the attendance team will happily arrange to meet you.

Thank you for your continued support.

Please Note

Children in Year 6 take Standard Assessment Tasks (SATs) in the Summer Term. Requests for leave of absence will not be authorised during this period for Year 6 pupils. In Year 1, pupils have a phonics screening check in June – again, leave of absence cannot be authorised at this time.
