ClassDojo

What is Class Dojo?

At Belmont, we are always trying to update our ways of communicating with parents to ensure that we are always in touch about the welfare and learning of our children. In Years 1-6 we are excited to now use ClassDojo - a school communication platform that teachers and families can use every day to build close-knit communities by sharing what’s being learned in the classroom.

Classroom Stories

Stories are instantly updating streams of messages, pictures and videos, similar to an X (Twitter)-style timeline. Each class has its own Story, which is shared at home with parents and carers.

The updates added by the teacher will only be accessed by the parents/carers and children in that specific class. These will include things such as events in the classroom, what we are going to be learning about the next week and any dates for the diary of which we need you to be aware.

School Stories

Information/photos and videos posted to the School Story by staff can be seen by all families in the school that are connected to the system.

Dojo or Monster Points

Teachers use ClassDojo to promote positive behaviours in their classroom. Each child has a monster avatar, and teachers can award Dojos for things such as staying on task, meeting a target, being kind or for brilliant homework. Each pupil’s monsters can only be customised from within their own account. Each week, we celebrate the School House that has earned the most Dojo points in our Winners Wednesday assembly.

Parents/carers can also use Dojos as a reward for their children, which many parents have told us, has motivated their children to do the things expected of them at home! The free Dojo account allows parents/carers to award up to 3 Dojo points each day.

Messages

ClassDojo is also an easy way to share brief messages between home and school. Staff will respond to any messages although any sent out of school hours may not be seen by the teacher until the next working day.

Important things to remember ...

  • You still need to ring/contact the school office if your child is absent from school.
  • Teachers will respond to messages, however please remember that we teach your children from 8:50 am - 3:25 pm, so you may not receive a message back until the end of the working day.
  • We will not be using the app during school holidays or weekends.
  • Any communications with school staff should be polite and always mindful of the right of the recipient to be treated with respect, as outlined in our Parent & Carers Code of Conduct Policy.

All of the information you give will be kept private and the ClassDojo privacy policy also states that no information will be passed on. Please follow the link and read their privacy policy https://www.classdojo.com/privacy/

Join Class Dojo

Children are given an invitation letter with instructions on how to connect to their account. If you have any questions about this, please contact your child's class teacher via the Contact Form on the website.

The ClassDojo App

The app is free and is enough for parent/carers to view the Class Story, send teachers a message and give up to 3 Dojos a day. It is not necessary to pay for extra Dojos and we ask that children only receive up to 3 daily at home to ensure it is fair to all children.
