FOBS Supporting The Grounds Evening - May 2018
Members of the FOBS team, along with their children, attended the school Grounds Evening as the majority support to the event. Whilst team members were busy filling wheel barrows and shuttling them up and down the school field, working alongside volunteers from the Woodland Trust, Parish Councillors and school staff, the children joined in to help with the digging and as much as possible.
We helped fill the new raised flower beds with new top soil ready for planting and also began working on the ground ready for the “Ribbon of Poppies” event later in the year. The ground at the front of the field proved to be very hard and riddled with well-established tree roots making it nearly impossible to turn the soil.
We would like to thank the national Horticultural Trade Association, Thompson and Morgan Seeds, Taylors Bulbs of Holbeach and locally, Belton Garden Centre, for all of their support.
As it was also the Horticultural Trade Association’s National Children’s Gardening Week, we began our preparations for the “Ribbon of Poppies” event later in the year. Poppy seeds have been kindly donated by our supporters. We do need to get planting as soon as we can but this is proving difficult due to the hard condition of the grounds and tree roots. We are hoping to provide raised planters to be able to sow the seeds and this will enable our team and school children of all abilities and ages, to easily turn the soil ready to be used again. This however is work in progress.
We would like to say a huge thank you to a grandparent, Tony Clark, for his generous gift of two bug hotels for the Wildlife Area.
