Christmas Fun!

We have enjoyed lots and lots of festive fun … making our lovely crafts for the Christmas Fayre and visiting the Church for our Carol Service. We also enjoyed our last day treat of popcorn and watching 'Home Alone' before taking part in the Christmas quiz and of course our end of term party!

Our Trip To Flag Fen

We had an excellent day at Flag Fen! The children represented the school brilliantly, showing all of our Pocket Principles at all times. Their recall of facts and information from our history learning journey blew me away at times and impressed the staff at Flag Fen, who said they were an excellent group and they loved working with them throughout the day.

We started our morning at Flag Fen in an Iron Age round house and even had the fire burning! We learnt lots about how they were built and what the fire would be used for! We then moved back in time to the Bronze Age, learning more about how their houses were built and compared the differences between the houses. When wet, the roof could weigh up to 2 tonnes! We were also able to experience the life of a hunter! The class all had a go at throwing a spear at a deer, then we learnt about what they would do with it once it was caught. We finished our morning by looking at the Flag Fen Bronze Age causeway.

Our afternoon started with some Stone Age art, mixing berries, chalk, charcoal and water to create our paint for the rocks. We also had a go at using wattle and daub just like they used to make the walls for their houses. The children were even keen to get their hands in the animal dung! Our penultimate activity was using clay to make a pot in the style of either the Bronze Age or the Iron Age. We finished our day looking at some artefacts from the Stone Age, Bronze Age and the Iron Age and the children then tried to work out which era they were from! Well done Year 3!

Odd Socks Day

The children loved wearing their odd socks when we took part in Odd Socks Day in support of Anti-bullying Week! The theme of the day was that it is okay to be different and we spent time talking about why we are all special and how we can be respectful and friends with others.

Beginning Our Geography Learning

During the Autumn term, our geography learning is focused on settlements. We are discovering whether all settlements are the same and exploring the different types of land use and the difference between urban and rural.

Forest School

The children have been very excited to start their first Forest School sessions in this school year with Mrs Pallier! Forest School aims to support the whole child – their physical, mental and emotional development - and build on a child’s innate motivation and positive attitude to learning, offering them the opportunities to take  supported risks, make choices and initiate learning for themselves, in a woodland or natural environment. In their first session, as well as exploring the Wildlife Area, the children really enjoyed making friendship bracelets!

The sessions take place weekly, whatever the weather! As well as a suitable coat, we ask that children are provided with a pair of named wellies in a bag that can be brought into school on their Forest School day or kept in school if easier!

Harvest Festival

At the end of term 1, we joined with Barasingha Class to welcome our parents and carers in to school to join us for our harvest assembly. The children did a brilliant job and sang beautifully! They thought about why we celebrate harvest in the autumn and why we support people who are less fortunate than ourselves. We are very thankful for the generous donations of food which we have sent on to the Grantham Foodbank.

A Great Start To Our Learning!

Our science topic for the first term is Forces and Magnets, and we began by identifying objects that we push or pull - or do both. We then had a great lesson where we explored the force of friction and discovered how far a car could travel on different surfaces. The children have also made a fantastic start to their history learning journeys where we are finding out about the Stone Age. You can see a lovely example below.
