Belmont Welcomes The Premier League Trophy!

Everyone was thrilled to welcome the Premier League Trophy along with two players, a coach and a sports scientist from Lincoln City FC to Belmont last Friday morning!

As you know, we work closely with sports charity Inspire+ and recently they asked schools in Grantham whether they would like the trophy to visit. With only time for 4 schools to receive the honour, we had to make a bid, setting out how we promote and celebrate sport - in particular football. Mr Togher contacted staff at Lincoln City and they were delighted to accept an invitation to take part. It would also be the ideal opportunity for the School Council to announce how much was raised in the Togher Trials – which included of course, our very own World Cup.

We were very excited to see the Trophy on the stage as we walked into the hall. It had its own guards who made sure it was safe and not touched by anyone – even they had to wear white gloves! Our excitement heightened when in walked First Team Coach Jamie McCombe; Head of Sports Science, Luke Jelly and players, Sam Habergham and Ellis Chapman from Lincoln City FC.

There followed a super question and answer session, with pupils having the opportunity to pose such questions as: ‘Who inspired you?’ and ‘What do you do if things don’t go your way in a game?'

Next up was the School Council, who presented a slideshow about our World Cup and role models from the Premier League, which was followed by a film created by Year 3. They were very proud to announce that £1,349 has been raised from the Togher Trials. A fantastic achievement!

Before the Trophy had to leave us, every class had the opportunity to have a photo taken with it and the players.

It was such a fantastic morning and we would all like to thank Mr Togher, Inspire+ and everyone from Lincoln City FC for making it a morning we will never forget.
