End Of Term Sports Round-Up

Another term complete, another term full of sport. We started with some fantastic news that we, as a school, had won some free coaching sessions with Premier Sports from the World Cup penalty shootout competition that we took part in before Christmas as we came out as overall WINNERS! This then meant we were able to start the term with every class in the school getting a bonus PE lesson with one of their coaches.

Our next event was ‘LetGirlsPlay’, a nationwide Football Association initiative, intended to promote girls in sport and increase participation numbers. The event was due to be held at Harrowby United football club however the weather put a stop to that. This however didn’t mean our children missed out as we were very pleased to be able to have Inspire+ coaches come in to run a girls football session for all of the girls in KS2.

In terms of competitions this term, we had our netball team take part in their league matches and our hockey and tag rugby teams taking part in two tournaments. All of the children represented our school brilliantly, with some excellent performances, improved standard of play and most of all with complete enjoyment.

Our Year 4’s completed their final swimming lesson at Sleaford Leisure Centre this term, in which they were assessed for distances. The improvement the class made over their time swimming was phenomenal and we have already got 50% of the class able to swim the curriculum expected 25m, with the majority of the rest of the class achieving a distance award. We even had 2 children complete 250m and 300m! Our term was rounded off with the end of our Wellbeing Week, Physical Friday. This was a whole class workout with the focus on the ‘Be Active’ strand of the 5 Ways to Wellbeing. This event was organised by our brilliant Young Ambassadors who supported each class throughout the stations of the workout.

Next term is already ramping up to be a busy one! Our netball club is finishing and being replaced by a Y4/5/6 cricket club and Tag rugby is being replaced by a Y4/5/6 rounders club. We are also adding a Y1,2,3 football club and a girls football lunchtime club. There will also be an open dance club at lunchtimes on various days. In terms of upcoming competitions, we have girls, KS1 and mixed cricket, rounders and Y3/4 cross country. We are also very pleased to say that we will be hosting our very own Belmont Primary School Football tournament and we have invited other schools to come and take part - there will be both a girls and a mixed tournament to take part in. All details regarding competitions and tournaments will be sent out throughout the term to those selected for the events.

As we return after half term, we have 2 events in school which were shared via Parent Mail; the first for International Circus Day and the second for International Dance Day. It would be great to see as many parents as possible coming in to take part in the Circus Day and watching the dance routine at the end of the day.

Thanks again for your continued support,

Mr Togher
