We are here again, the beginning of another year of sport and we've got off to a flying start this term! Our clubs have started, including: football, table tennis, netball and girl’s football with Inspire+ coach Kai. We are very excited that the girl’s football program will continue next term as Miss Young will be taking over the club having worked with coach Kai this term. Our Year 2’s have had the opportunity to work with Inspire+ coach Kane as he led them through the Sports Cadets program, this working on different social skills and a range of attributes through the use of sport.
This term we also had a visit from Olympic swimmer and Inspire+ Ambassador, Sophie Devenish, to talk to our Key Stage 2 classes about girls in sport, diminishing negative images and attitudes. This session concluded with Sophie working directly with our Year 5 and 6 girls, a group that she described as the best she had worked with, so we were very proud of them!
This term has been quiet on the competition front, having only competed in the School Games Virtual Mile, in which we had some very impressive times recorded. These times are then submitted to our School Games Organiser to then be compared with all the other schools taking part so we will be eagerly awaiting the results next term. It is an event in which all of Key Stage 2 took part, meaning 120 children participated and had the opportunity to be active and compete to represent the school!
Some Year 3/4 children had the opportunity to attend South Kesteven Rugby Club to take part in a Rugby Festival. They were able to take part in lots of activities, working on various skills needed in tag rugby and they even had the chance to play a match at the end. A group of children from across Key Stage 2 were given the opportunity to attend a Badminton Festival at KGGS. This also included various games and activities, this time linked to badminton. The group showed great improvement in such a short time, with many commenting that they want to take it up outside of school, which is the aim of attending the festivals.
Looking Ahead
At the start of next term, Year 5 and 6 will compete in our first intra-school competition of netball and at the end of the term they will compete again in tag rugby, whilst our Year 3 and 4 will compete in basketball. We will also see our girl’s and mixed football teams take part in the School Games tournaments and a group from across Key Stage 2 will be attending the Cheerleading Festival. There is the huge sporting event happening during this term, the World Cup in Quatar, which we will have a focus on in school, including watching the first England game against Iran on Monday, 21 November. Our Reception class will be working with Inspire+ as they take part in Little Movers in their PE lessons and some children in Key Stage 2 will be attending fitness mentoring with Sophie Devenish, who will also be running nutrition workshops with our children. We will also be having assemblies with two new Inspire+ Ambassadors, Dai Green (British hurdler) and Joe Roebuck (British swimmer), something that we are very excited about.
Thank you for your continued support,
Mr Togher
