We had a fantastic day today at the first ever Inspire+ football tournament!

First up was the girls competition - a group of 5 in which the top placed team earned a place straight into the final! Belmont kicked off with a 2-0 win against Belton Lane which was followed up with a 0-0 draw with Gonerby Hill Foot. The girls then beat St Mary’s 2-0 and completed their group matches with a 0-0 draw with St Sebastian’s. These results meant the girls topped the group and made it into the final!

The final was a great contest against Belton Lane; the girls worked hard and showed excellent team spirit and edged out with a 1-0 win meaning they came out as CHAMPIONS! The girls did a fantastic job throughout the competition and won it with the huge achievement of not conceding a single goal!

The boys were up next in a competition with the same schools and same format. The boys lost their first two games 1-0 to Belton Lane and 2-0 to Gonerby Hill Foot. They put these results behind them quickly as they won the next game 3-0 against St Mary’s and completed their league fixtures with a 1-0 win against St Sebastian’s. Their results meant they finished 4th in the group and played second placed Gonerby Hill Foot. This second game was a much tighter contest as the boys worked hard to put their previous 2-0 defeat behind them. They went a goal down, but didn’t let their heads go down, scoring a fantastic equaliser in the last minute to draw 1-1. This meant the game went to penalties which unfortunately the boys lost 2-1 in the shootout. The boys showed great attitudes and determination throughout their games and played some excellent football!
