We were pleased to welcome Lincolnshire Road Safety Officer, Jo Collett, back to Belmont this week. She came along to speak to the children about the importance of keeping safe whilst riding their bikes and scooters. The children were very surprised to see how far a car will travel after the brakes are applied - the demonstration showed how they need to take great care whilst travelling near or on the roads.
Using Quentin Blake's brilliant story, 'Mrs Armitage on Wheels', Jo explained the importance of wearing bright colours and knowing how to check your bike or scooter is safe to ride. Some of the children said that they didn't always wear a helmet, but in a fun experiment involving a helmet-wearing egg and a frying pan, Jo proved how a helmet can help stop a serious injury.
Keep safe everyone!
