Knowing where our food comes from and what kind of things we should be eating to keep ourselves healthy is so very important and is a vital part of the Belmont curriculum. That is why we were very pleased to welcome Gavin, an Executive Chef from Chartwells our hot meals providers, to Belmont recently. The children in Impala and Barasingha classes were very excited to take part in a special workshop to learn more about vegetables! Not only how the more unfamiliar ones grow and look but also how they help keep us healthy.
Nutritious and tasty hot meals are provided by Chartwells at Belmont every day, and are free to ALL children in EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2 - these are called Universal Free School Meals. Choosing a Universal Free School Meal will help save you up to £450 per year!
Free School Meals are also available for children in Year 3 and above if you meet the eligibility criteria set out on the Lincolnshire County Council website, where you should make your claim. We also strongly encourage you to apply for Free School Meals if you have a child in EYFS, Year 1 or Year 2, even though they are entitled to a Universal School Meal. This is because if you are eligible, not only will your child receive a delicious free meal, the school will receive extra funding which is known as Pupil Premium. Children in receipt of Free School Meals also qualify for a reduction in costs for educational visits and other chargeable events, so it is always worth enquiring.
If you are not eligible and to avoid requesting this information again, Lincolnshire County Council will store your data securely and it will be checked for eligibility should your circumstances change.
More information about Free School Meals and how to apply can be found on the Lincolnshire County Council website: please click HERE to go directly to it. You will also find further information HERE on the school website; we hope you find it useful.
