We were delighted to welcome parents to our second workshop of the term, 'Reading VIPERS', led by Mr Grossmith this morning.
This is a new initiative at Belmont which aims to support children with their reading comprehension, enabling them to be strong, confident readers.
The VIPERS acronym is a great way of helping children and parents to remember what the vital skills for reading comprehension are:
Vocabulary
Infer
Predict
Explain
Retrieve
Sequence or Summarise
All children work on VIPERS during class reading, whether it is reading as a class, in a small group or one-to-one with an adult. We hope that parents/carers will refer to VIPERS when you listen to your child read at home.
You can find out more about VIPERS in the Parents section of this website under Reading & Writing Guides. Please click HERE to go directly to the page.
We look forward to welcoming you to our next workshop, on Tuesday 16 October from 9:00 am, when you will have the opportunity to find out more about Talk For Writing with Mr Grossmith.
