Our final term of sport is always brilliant, even if the weather this year has tried to hinder that. We’ve had a fantastic children led Sports Day and many other opportunities for sporting activity.
Our cricket team played in the School Games tournament and had lots of success winning 3 out of 4 matches and finishing 6th overall in the tournament. We also attended the athletics competition for the first time and it was definitely a worthwhile trip with lots of silverware for Belmont: 2 golds in the 800m, a gold in the sprint, a bronze in the sprint, cricket ball throw and long jump and it was finished off with a bronze in the girls relay!
We also had a fantastic afternoon of sport on our Sports Themed Dress Down Day, with the children taking part in 7 different sports in 1 afternoon.
Our year finished with my favourite event of the year, the Belmont Sports Personality Awards. This was a fantastic night to celebrate our school sport and the success of our children. It was a brilliantly supported night with lots of family members coming to see their children being awarded for their hard work. We celebrated football, cricket, tag rugby, athletics (both Sportshall and outdoor), netball, new age kurling, cross country, panathlon and hockey. Our night was rounded off with a celebration of our Young Ambassadors, who have done a fantastic job all year and helped the school secure a Gold School Games Mark for the third year running!
Our penultimate award of the evening was for the Walter Cobb Cup - the winner chosen by me - and this year the award went to Amelia for her fantastic year of sport. Our final awards were for the 3rd, 2nd and 1st place in the Belmont Sports Personality, this voted for by the children in KS2. In third place was Lily and she was deserving of the recognition from her peers for her 4 years as part of the Young Ambassador team and for her constant hard work to improve and help others in sport . In second place was Railey, a hugely talented athlete who has grown into a fantastic sports performer and has represented the school at lots of competitions this year. He has a bright future in sport ahead of him, as do all of our winners! And finally the winner of the Belmont Primary School Sports Personality of the Year was ... Reegan! He attended every single sports club this year and represented the school at every competition. Reegan is an outstanding sportsman in not only ability, but his attitude as well!
A huge well done to everyone who has taken part in sport this year and a big thank you to all parents and carers who have supported us and helped transport your children to events. Taking part is not possible without this so it is much appreciated! Have a fantastic summer and we’ll be ready to kick start the new year of sport in September!
