Sports Round-Up

It’s been great this term to see PE and sport return back to some ‘normality’. Our children have been able to take part in a range of sports in PE lessons and this term has also seen the return of our extra-curricular Sports Clubs which have had a great uptake. We were pleased to be able to offer so much sporting opportunity, including: Netball, Year 5/6 Football, Year 3/4 Football, Lacrosse, Table Tennis, Dance and a KS1 Sport Club. It has been brilliant to see children being able to be active and enjoy sport again!

This term we had Inspire+ coach Kelsey in, working with Year 6 for PE, focusing on fitness and she also did an afterschool Dance Club with over 30 dancers attending! They have worked very hard and have learnt lots of routines - a video of the routine will be on the school Twitter account for you to see how well they have done. Our Young Ambassadors have also had their training with Kai from Inspire+ and cannot wait to get started!

One thing that has been huge this term for our school sport is the start of our 401 challenge. The children have been very enthusiastic about succeeding and covering more and more distances, working together to push their class and our school along the huge journey around America that Inspire+ Ambassador Ben Smith will be completing next year. A big thank you to everyone who has been sending us details of all the clubs/activities your children take part in outside of school, it has been great to hear all about them!

We also had the return of the School Games competitions this term, with KS2 taking part in the Virtual Mile competition, in which the fastest 3 boys and 3 girls are submitted to compete against other schools. We had some excellent times and I wish them all good luck! Our netball team also had the opportunity to take part in the first round of Netball League matches. It was great to see the children back competing and representing the school so brilliantly.

Our final sporting action of the term saw us play two football matches against Huntingtower, a girls one and a mixed one. Our girls kicked us off with a great performance, getting a huge 8-0 win. A fantastic game and a great team effort. Our mixed game then followed, which was another great game, with lots of chances for both teams. A huge well done to all involved, many players playing their first ever game of football!

Next term will soon be upon us and it is already lined up to be a sport filled one. Inspire+ coach Jack will be working with Year 4 on Boxercise, clubs will continue and we also have the girls football and mixed football tournaments. Some classes will also have the opportunity to take part in some Orienteering next term at our school, a great new sport for our children to experience. Our Playground Leaders will be out working with KS1 next term during lunchtimes, helping them have an active, fun lunchtime. We are also hosting the Inspire+ Talented Athlete Program for KS1 at our school, with a number of our pupils being selected to attend and we also have a number of Year 3 and 4 children attending their virtual program.

Thank you for your continued support,

Mr Togher
