Sports Round-Up Of The Term

This term has been another filled with sport, whether that be competitions, learning a new sport or meeting athletes in assemblies. First of all, Year 1 have had the opportunity to work with Inspire+ coach Dan on some dancing. They learnt dances and created their own moves under the umbrella of a theme. The class showed great improvement throughout and really enjoyed their lessons with Dan. We have also had some children who have been working with Inspire+ for their Aspire to Inspire mentoring; they have taken part in some great activities and have been set personal targets to work towards in school.

Our Young Ambassadors have also been busy this term. They have attended the Legacy Tour assembly training at Huntingtower school before delivering the assembly to our school. They focused on the Olympics and Paralympics in France this coming year before randomly selecting which country our Year 3 and 4’s will be representing at this year’s Mini Olympics – Switzerland. Following on from our assembly, two Young Ambassadors then attended Ropsley Primary School to pass on the torch and read out our school pledge.

Competitions this term saw us take part in lots of new sports; we competed in the Primary Penathlon to start. This included a range of activities and we were very proud of our team of athletes who had huge success and finished 1st place overall - a great achievement for the first time our school has taken part in this competition. We then took part in 2 other new sports for many of our children, Boccia and New Age Kurling. These two sports were offered to a group of children as an afterschool club and the children showed great improvement and grew in enthusiasm for the sports and their understanding grew. We have also been very lucky this term to have Rodney from Grantham Badminton club leading an afterschool club for us. This gave us the opportunity to offer a new sport to our children and the opportunity to work with a badminton coach. The children all went through the racket pack badminton program and achieved level 1 certificates and pin badges for doing so.

For PE this term, our Year 4’s have continued their school swimming journey and their progress Is already visible; we look forward to seeing how far they can continue to progress as they continue next term. Sticking with swimming, the end of the term saw a large team of swimmers from our school attend the Rotary Swimarathon. As always, this was a fantastic event and our children thoroughly enjoyed themselves, pushing each other to do the best they could, whilst also aiming to raise money for the Rotary Club and local causes.

Finally, this term has been one full of Inspire+ Ambassador visits. We have had assemblies from GB athletes, both paralympic and Olympic. These included Joe Roebuck, Sam Ruddock, Dai Greene and Jonathon Broom-Edwards. All the assemblies were engaging and the children were enthused by them. Next term will continue to be a busy one with our Netball team competitions coming up, along with lots of girls football events. A Tag Rugby afterschool club will be starting as we prepare our team for the tournament at the end of next term.

Thanks for your continued support,
