As always, the summer term has been a busy one. We started with our new clubs, Rounders, Cricket and Years 1, 2, 3 Football. We have had fantastic numbers at each session and we have competed in the girls cricket competition. Rounders and the mixed cricket tournament are coming up next term and the children are looking forward to them.

The first event held in school this term was for International Circus Day. For this event we invited parents in to take part with their children's class session, working on different skills you would find in a circus. We had a fantastic turn out of parents and it was great to see them working together with their child. The following week was International Dance Day. For this event each class worked on a routine which was then performed for parents at the end of the day, as a whole school. Again, the turn out from parents was very good and I think you would all agree, the children did a brilliant job. We would like to say a huge thank you to Inspire+ coach Dan for his work in supporting both the circus and dance event.

The first team event of this term was the Year 3/4 cross country. This event gave an opportunity to form our largest team, with 20 children taking part. All of the children put in lots of effort during the race and performed very well. Overall, the boys team finished 3rd place and a special mention to Logan who came 1st place in the boys' race. After the Year 4’s very successful time at school swimming lessons, Year 3 have started theirs this term. They have been working hard and these lessons will continue into next term. In the last week of term we had an assembly from Inspire+ Ambassador, Jonathan Broom-Edwards, focusing on the importance of body language in communication and active listening. An assembly that engaged the whole school, with some children having the opportunity to join in with the assembly, acting out some emotions for Jonathan and also to engage in a conversation to show good and bad listening.

The last two weeks of term saw us do something that I was very proud to have organised for us as a school. We held our first ever football tournaments, both a girls and a mixed event. This making us, to our knowledge, the first school in Grantham to do this. In the girls tournament, our teams finished 2nd place in the shield half of the competition and 3rd place in the cup. For the mixed tournament we finished in 4th place in the shield and 3rd place in the cup. Congratulations to Claypole (shield winners) and Ropsley (cup winners) in the girls competition and to Ropsley again (shield winners) and Belton Lane (cup winners) in the mixed.

Mr Davidson welcomed everyone to the last Star Achiever assembly of the term this morning. Our Stars have been working incredibly hard and were very proud to share their learning with us all.

This week, our fantastic Stars received certificates for:

Reindeer Class - his great 1:1 counting skills and recognition of teen numbers.

Fallow Class - her excellent effort and enthusiasm in English.

Elk Class - his fantastic reading skills in our guided reading.

Impala Class - the hard work, effort and interest that she has put into her Art learning journey.

Barasingha Class - her amazing work in English.

Sambar Class - her effort and skill level playing in goal in the football tournament.

Taruca Class - his wonderful Science writing about the heart.

In addition, a coveted platinum times tables badge was awarded today. Our congratulations go to Zak for his terrific achievement.

The awards for exceptional kindness were presented to Esmee W, Lexi, Oscar and Harriet.

The final announcement of the morning was for attendance, with Taruca Class being very excited to receive the award for the second consecutive week with a fabulous 98%!

This term, we hope to invite the parents and carers of Star Achievers to join the celebration either by joining us in school or watching via Zoom. The password will be changed weekly.

We are excited to let you know that the FOBS Summer Fayre is fast approaching - only 5 more weeks to go! It is due to take place on Friday, 30 June from 3:30 to 5:30 pm and is set to be BIGGER than ever!

There will be a non-uniform day on Friday, 9 June where children will be able to come to school dressed in summer clothes (sensible shoes (no flipflops) and sun hats please), in return for a donation towards the tombola and raffle. Further information about what sort of donations are appreciated will be sent out after the half-term break.

Help running the games stalls or with setting up/clearing away will be very much appreciated, even if it’s only for 30 minutes (no experience or special skills necessary).

We were very excited to welcome Paralympian High Jumper and Inspire + Ambassador Jonathan along with his mascot Torch back to Belmont today. In an inspiring assembly, Jonathan spoke about body language and how we can tell how someone is feeling just from what their bodies are doing. He chose a group of children to show an emotion using just body language then everyone had to guess what it was. He also spoke about how our body language can make other people feel and how they react to that. 

He also gave suggestions for what we can do to promote a better sense of wellbeing and confidence. This included teaching the children an 'awesome' power pose to help them when they feel they need a boost.

We would like to say thanks once again to Jonathan and Inspire+ for another great assembly.

After 3 years without it, the Togher Trials are making a return, bigger and better than ever! In the last Togher Trials, in 2019 we raised over £1,700 for our school and we hope to raise even more this year. This huge sum included some sponsorship from my own Togher Trial, cycling 26 miles from Lincoln Cathedral to School. The money raised was split 50/50 between our school fund and raising money for Cancer Research.

The Togher Trials will take place over 5 days starting on Monday 19 June 2023 with the final event being a water butt race during Sports Day which is Friday 23 June.

How it works:
Each child will take part in a sporting activity each day for a week. To raise funds for the school, we would like children to be sponsored for taking part in all of the different activities. A sponsor form has been sent home via ParentMail but a copy can be downloaded by clicking HERE. Any amount raised, no matter how small, will be gratefully received and very much appreciated.

The timetable for the week is:
MONDAY: Boxercise
TUESDAY: Obstacle Course
WEDNESDAY: Football
THURSDAY: How Far Can You Run?

FRIDAY: The Water Butt Race 

As you can see, there is something for everyone to enjoy! If your child would like to be sponsored for this exciting fundraiser please return the sponsor form before Friday, 16 June 2023, the money is not required at this point. Sponsor forms will be returned to you after the final event so that monies can be collected. All sponsor money should be handed in by Monday 3 July 2023.

My Togher TRIALathlon – Thursday 22 June
We couldn’t let the Togher trials make a return without another Togher Trial for me! So, for this year, I have gone even bigger, to form the Togher TRIALathlon. I will cycle 25 miles from Lincoln to Belmont, run 3.5 miles to the Meres Leisure Centre and finally I will swim for 1 hour. The money raised from this part of the trials will be split 50/50 between our school funds and Young Minds charity. We chose Young Minds as it links directly with our work on the 5 Ways to Wellbeing and the high priority we place around children’s mental health.

We were delighted to welcome PCSO Georgina Stray back to Belmont this week for a special assembly on the topic, 'Personal Responsibility'.  The children from Sambar and Taruca classes were given the opportunity to discuss how to keep themselves and their friends safe, including knowing the effects of alcohol, and to be aware of how their behaviour can affect others. They also explored the meaning of the term 'peer pressure' - what it is and how it can affect them and their friends.. 

We would like to say thank you once again to PCSO Georgina for another fantastic informative session.

Our congratulations go to the pupils in Sambar Class who took part in Bikeability this week. Working with Peter and Andrew from Outspoken Training, the children were incredibly focused as they learnt and practised the vital skills needed to be safe cycling on the public roads.

We had a lovely afternoon celebrating the coronation of King Charles III on Friday! With the forecasted rain holding off, it was wonderful that so many parents and carers could come along and have a picnic with us whilst being entertained by some terrific singing and dancing. Refreshments were kindly provided by the FOBS.

The children had spent some time during the week learning about the monarchy and Sambar Class were very proud to lead the afternoon by presenting each class and sharing some of the information they had found. The children read beautifully. Each class then performed songs by British Acts including the Beatles, Elton John and Tim Rice and George Ezra with a closing performance of The National Anthem led by Taruca. Everyone had a great time singing along! At the end of a wonderful afternoon, each child was presented with a commemorative medal, which we know they will treasure for years to come.

Our new Gardening Club held their first session last Friday and had a great time! Led by Mrs Pallier and Mrs Eggleston, the club is open to all members of the school and has proved very popular with all age groups. On Friday, they were joined by Mrs James, Chair of the FOBs and school governors, Mr Armstrong and Mr Parnham who were delighted to share their extensive gardening knowledge with the children.

The FOBS have worked tirelessly over the last two years raising funds for our Wildlife and outdoor areas. We have been able to regenerate the planting boxes, purchasing potting benches, a greenhouse and other equipment. The children were very excited to learn how to pot and care for the plants which were then placed in the greenhouse until all chance of frost has gone. 

Our thanks go to Mr Armstrong, Mr Parnham and the FOBS, the children can't wait for the next session!

We had such fun on the first two Thursdays of the term when we celebrated the International Days of Circus and then Dance. Superbly led by Inspire+ coach Dan, on both days the children had a great time learning new skills. It was fantastic to see so many parents and carers come along to share in the fun!
