Visit To The National Holocaust Centre & Museum

We had an incredible opportunity to explore our themed work on World War II when we visited the National Holocaust Centre and Museum in Laxton.

During the morning, we explored The Journey exhibition, which is an interactive museum where we followed the journey of a young fictional Jewish boy called Leo by watching video extracts of him reading his diary. The children were able to look at, touch and discuss what they saw and how he might have felt as a young Jew in Germany. In the afternoon, the children heard the stories of real survivors who had travelled to England on the Kindertransport as children, and also visited the memorial garden. The trip was an incredibly powerful experience which the children accessed with sensitivity and compassion.

Does Exercise Affect Your Heart Rate?

Our Science learning in the Spring term is about the human circulatory system, with the children learning about the role of the heart, blood and blood vessels. As part of this, they investigated whether exercise affects the heart rate.

World Book Day

PE Fun!

During assessment week, year 6 broke out the PE equipment and had great fun! We had the climbing frame with ladders, climbing robes with rope ladder and a custom “assault course”.

Sharing Our Stories

On the last day of the Autumn term, we were excited to welcome the children from Year I to our classroom. We have been writing our own versions of Hansel and Gretal, with Year 1 in mind as our audience and we really enjoyed reading our stories to the younger children.

Success At Bikeability

We are very proud of the 11 children from our class who took part in Bikeability Level 1 and 2 over four mornings with Laura and Caroline from Outspoken! Training. They learnt the ABC for checking their bikes (air, brakes and chain), had a morning session training on the playground, before venturing out on local roads.

The children were taught the importance of checking around them, before any manoeuvre, prior to experiencing “real world cycling”. They practised pulling away from the kerb, road position, junctions and U- turns. They all received a certificate and sticker for their hard work and are well on their way to becoming independent cyclists. Well done!

A Fantastic Time At Whitby!

We had a brilliant time on our residential trip at the beginning of Term 2! Staying at YHA Whitby, we were ideally situated for taking part in lots of fun activities. These included fossil hunting on the beach, jet polishing and the opportunity to visit the museum as well as the lobster hatchery at the Marine Discovery Centre. We also really enjoyed a night walk on the cliffs of Whitby Abbey. That it was Bonfire Night meant the skies were spectacular!

Making Plant Collages

In Science during the first term, the children have been learning about classifications of animals and plants and have created some fabulous plant collages. They needed to show which group they were in by representing all the characteristics of that group.

Learning About First Aid

Learning First Aid is an important skill and we were delighted to welcome Paige from Inspire+ who led two fantastic workshops on the topic with our class and the children from Sambar. Topics covered included how to administer an epipen in the event of an anaphylaxis shock, how to create a sling and how to do cpr and put people into a recovery position.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the workshops and we send our huge thanks to Paige for a great day.

Singapore Noodles With Chef Darren!

The class thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the healthy eating workshop with Chef Darren from Roots To Food at the beginning of term.

They had a fabulous time as they practiced peeling, chopping and frying techniques whilst working as a team to create a healthy family meal - Singapore Noodles. The food tasted absolutely delicious - you can find the recipe in the photos below.

Afterwards, Darren commented, "It was a pleasure to return to Belmont. The children demonstrated terrific cooking practices, food techniques and nutritional value. The food theme was a huge success as almost all the children loved the food they created."

We're looking forward to his next visit!
