Success At Bikeability

We are very proud of the 11 children from our class who took part in Bikeability Level 1 and 2 over four mornings with Laura and Caroline from Outspoken! Training. They learnt the ABC for checking their bikes (air, brakes and chain), had a morning session training on the playground, before venturing out on local roads.

The children were taught the importance of checking around them, before any manoeuvre, prior to experiencing “real world cycling”. They practiced pulling away from the curb, road position, junctions and U- turns. They all received a certificate and sticker for their hard work and are well on their way to becoming independent cyclists. Well done!

A Fantastic Time At Whitby!

We had a brilliant time on our residential trip at the beginning of Term 2! Staying at YHA Whitby, we were ideally situated for taking part in lots of fun activities. These included fossil hunting on the beach, jet polishing and the opportunity to visit the museum as well as the lobster hatchery at the Marine Discovery Centre. We also really enjoyed a night walk on the cliffs of Whitby Abbey. That it was Bonfire Night meant the skies were spectacular!

Making Plant Collages

In Science during the first term, the children have been learning about classifications of animals and plants and have created some fabulous plant collages. They needed to show which group they were in by representing all the characteristics of that group.

Learning About First Aid

Learning First Aid is an important skill and we were delighted to welcome Paige from Inspire+ who led two fantastic workshops on the topic with our class and the children from Sambar. Topics covered included how to administer an epipen in the event of an anaphylaxis shock, how to create a sling and how to do cpr and put people into a recovery position.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the workshops and we send our huge thanks to Paige for a great day.

Singapore Noodles With Chef Darren!

The class thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the healthy eating workshop with Chef Darren from Roots To Food at the beginning of term.

They had a fabulous time as they practiced peeling, chopping and frying techniques whilst working as a team to create a healthy family meal - Singapore Noodles. The food tasted absolutely delicious - you can find the recipe in the photos below.

Afterwards, Darren commented, "It was a pleasure to return to Belmont. The children demonstrated terrific cooking practices, food techniques and nutritional value. The food theme was a huge success as almost all the children loved the food they created."

We're looking forward to his next visit!
