A Special Visitor!
We had a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny on the last day of the Spring term! So exciting!
Our Cello Performance
The children were very excited and proud to perform in front of their families on the last day of the Spring term. The children have worked really hard learning how to play the cello and gave it their all. Our thanks to everyone at home for their support.
Building Bridges!
During a DT lesson in the Spring term, the children were tasked with building a wooden truss bridge out of lolly pop sticks! They all tried super hard but in the end we all came together to create a class bridge! Well done Year 5!
World book day 2025!
We had a fantastic day, we completed some fun English activities such as a word treasure hunt in our books and then we spent the afternoon sharing books with Y2! The children all looked amazing- thank you! Looking forward to the next one!
5 Ways To Wellbeing!
During a mental health workshop, the children were looking at the 5 Ways to Wellbeing. They explored what emotions were and the different ways we can manage these, alongside learning strategies as to how to manage our own mental health through the use of mini games! One strategy/ game was to use play-doh to “take notice” of the environment around us. Children had to create patterns and different shapes with their play-doh; lots of fun!
Cello Project
During the spring term, we were very excited to take part in a 12 week cello project! It was very exciting when we used the cello bows for the first time! We are hoping to show off our skills in a special concert for our families in April!
Forest School
The children were very excited to start their first Forest School afternoons with Mrs Pallier where they began by learning about different types of knots and in the second session explored the meaning of trust. Forest School aims to support the whole child – their physical, mental and emotional development - and build on a child’s innate motivation and positive attitude to learning, offering them the opportunities to take supported risks, make choices and initiate learning for themselves, in a woodland or natural environment.
The sessions take place weekly, whatever the weather! As well as a suitable coat, we ask that children are provided with a pair of named wellies in a bag that can be brought into school on their Forest School day or kept in school if easier!
Christmas Fun!
We have enjoyed lots and lots of festive fun … making our lovely crafts for the Christmas Fayre, visiting the Church for our Carol Service, , taking part in the end of term Christmas quiz and of course our end of term party!
Cooking and Nutrition
As part of our learning journey about cooking and nutrition, we were challenged to design and make our own meat stew! Beforehand, the children learnt about kitchen safety including cleanliness and basic knife skills and explored the different types of meat and ingredients that can be used. We then developed our own recipe which the children thoroughly enjoyed making then tasting!
Children In Need Day
Everyone looked fab for Children in Need Day, and we are very grateful for all of the donations we received for the charity. Thank you!
A Great Term 1!
We have had a great start to our year where the children have made excellent progress in their PSHE unit 'Me and my relationships'! We have used lots of class and partner discussions to debate how different relationships can look, what might be included in a good relationship, how we see other people and what makes a good friend! They are able to understand how others might perceive things said differently and are beginning to problem solve different conflicts calmly! They have also begun to develop their team building skills by creating the biggest tower made out of paper and tape which was very exciting and everyone worked super hard! They have done fantastically so far, and I can see how this is impacting how they treat each other on the playground.
In English, the children are beginning to improve their writing with the use of speech and exciting adverbs and adjectives to 'level-up' their writing! They have begun to include this in their own writing as well as be able to identify this in other pieces of text!
The children also completed their Space unit this term in science and absolutely loved it! We learnt how the sun casts shadows and how this can change depending on where the object is and how high the sun is in the sky. We made our own sundials to show this and the children kept track of the light through the day by drawing lines throughout the day.
