Fallow 2024 - 2025

A Special Visitor!

We had a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny on the last day of the Spring term! So exciting!

Great Wood Farm Visit

We had a wonderful time at the Great Wood Farm Early Years Centre when we visited with Year 2 - Elk Class. We have been learning about animals in science and as well as being able to explore the woodland, we had the opportunity to take part in a lambing workshop!

Our thanks to everyone at the Centre for making us feel so very welcome.

World Book Day!

We had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day! After completing some fun English activities in the morning, we spent the afternoon sharing books with other classes!

A Virtual Visit!
We were very excited to take part in a special online visit with author Bethany Walker who writes some of our favourite funny books!

Exploring Different Tastes & Smells

As part of our Science learning, we had great fun exploring the different types of tastes: sweet, sour, bitter, salty and savory. We also enjoyed our ‘Smell Investigation’, the children were so good at recognising different smells!

Christmas Fun!

We have enjoyed lots and lots of festive fun … making our lovely crafts for the Christmas Fayre, visiting the Church for our Carol Service, performing our Nativity, The Angel Express, taking part in the end of term Christmas quiz and of course our end of term party!

Children In Need Day

Everyone looked fab for Children in Need Day, and we are very grateful for all of the donations we received for the charity. Thank you!

Odd Socks Day

The children loved wearing their odd socks when we took part in Odd Socks Day in support of Anti-bullying Week! The theme of the day was that it is okay to be different and we spent time talking about why we are all special and how we can be respectful and friends with others.

Harold The Giraffe Visits Our Class!

We all loved seeing Harold the Giraffe and learning how to keep our bodies and minds healthy when Jenny from Coram Life Education came to Belmont this week!

A Visit By The Fire Service!

We were very excited to have a visit from the fire fighters and fire engine at the beginning of term 2! The children learnt about fire safety and explored the equipment available to firefighters. A big thank you to the Grantham firefighters for giving up their time for us.

Mapping Our School Playgrounds

The children are really enjoying our Geography learning! We have explored the features of our playgrounds and learnt about map symbols and a key then all worked together to add symbols to our map. Well done everyone!

Forest School

The children have been very excited to start their first Forest School sessions with Mrs Pallier! Forest School aims to support the whole child – their physical, mental and emotional development - and build on a child’s innate motivation and positive attitude to learning, offering them the opportunities to take  supported risks, make choices and initiate learning for themselves, in a woodland or natural environment.

The sessions take place weekly, whatever the weather! As well as a suitable coat, we ask that children are provided with a pair of named wellies in a bag that can be brought into school on their Forest School day or kept in school if easier!

Settling into Year 1

We have had a wonderful first week settling into our Year 1 Class. We have been choosing our favourite books and thinking about why we like them. We have also talked about ‘the moral of the story’ and the amazing things that books can teach us. In science, we have been naming different materials and going on a material hunt.

In History,  we have learnt about timelines and chronological order.  We have made a timeline of our own lives.  Can you think of a memorable event or toy from the first 5 years of your life?  What can you do now, that you couldn’t do when you were 3?

In Maths, we have been sorting and grouping objects by colour, shapes, size and type. We had fun reading the book, 'One is Snail, Ten is Crab' and adding the animal legs together and we made robots and worked out how many cubes tall they were!
