Great Wood Farm Visit
We had such a lovely time at Great Wood farm! In the morning, we enjoyed the forest school where we learned all about deciduous and evergreen trees, spotted some different types of trees and created our own trees using natural resources. We loved Mud Mountain and using the hammers to create artwork!
In the afternoon, we enjoyed a tractor ride around the forest, met some baby lambs and even got to feed a couple of the cade lambs. We ended the day by creating some artwork using the wool from the sheep.
Our thanks to everyone at the Centre for making us feel so very welcome.
World book day 2025!
We had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day! After completing some fun English activities in the morning, we spent the afternoon sharing books with Y5!
Experimenting With Texture
In art, we have been learning about ‘texture’. We first went on a texture hunt outside and did some rubbings. Then we experimented with paint to create different textures with objects, such as toothbrushes, sponges, scrunched up tinfoil and our fingers.
Christmas Fun!
We have enjoyed lots and lots of festive fun … making our lovely crafts for the Christmas Fayre, visiting the Church for our Carol Service, performing our Nativity, The Angel Express, taking part in the end of term Christmas quiz and of course our end of term party!
Our Dojo Monster Puppets!
During the last week of the Autumn term we carried out a DT project to design and make a hand puppet. We tested different joining techniques - staples, safety pins and glue, to decide what we wanted to use. Then we designed a ‘Dojo monster’ hand puppet. We used our design, and a paper pattern to cut the felt ourselves. Finally we embellished our puppets to show different features. We were very proud of our puppets!
Children In Need Day
Everyone looked fab for Children in Need Day, and we are very grateful for all of the donations we received for the charity. Thank you!
Harold The Giraffe Visits Our Class!
We all loved seeing Harold the Giraffe and learning how to keep our bodies and minds healthy when Jenny from Coram Life Education came to Belmont this week!
Odd Socks Day
The children loved wearing their odd socks when we took part in Odd Socks Day in support of Anti-bullying Week! The theme of the day was that it is okay to be different and we spent time talking about why we are all special and how we can be respectful and friends with others.
A Visit By The Fire Service!
We were very excited to have a visit from the fire fighters and fire engine at the beginning of term 2 as part of our History learning journey, 'The Great Fire of London'. The children learnt about fire safety and explored the equipment available to firefighters today and compared that to what was available in 1666. A big thank you to the Grantham firefighters for giving up their time for us.
Keeping Safe Online
Keeping our children safe online is a priority at Belmont and we were delighted to welcome Dan from the Lincolnshire Stay Safe Partnership who led an interactive online safety workshop with our class. The age-appropriate session covered areas such as making safer choices when going online; keeping personal information private; knowing how to ask for support and reporting bullying or offensive behaviour.
Properties Of Materials
In Science, we have been looking at the properties of materials and how these properties make them suitable or unsuitable for particular purposes. We have also learned how the shape of some solid materials can be changed, for example stretching and twisting elastic bands. The children really enjoyed the Elastigirl investigation!
A Busy Start To The Year!
The children are settling well into Year 2 and our days are very busy! Our History topic this term is the Great Fire of London and we have enjoyed finding out why the fire started and writing diaries. Our Art topic is linked to this and as well as painting, the children have been learning how to weave - they did a great job! PHSE is a very important part of our curriculum and in class we have been talking about differences between people and the children have been able to identify different types of feelings. You can see a selection of photos from our first weeks below.
