At Belmont Primary School we are committed to ensuring that our pupils have every opportunity to develop character, achieve success and realise their full potential. In order for them to secure achievement at Belmont, it is vital that they attend every day, are on time and work hard. The demands of the National Curriculum mean that if your child is away from school they will miss areas of work that cannot be replaced.

Routine medical or dental appointments should be arranged for after school or during the school holidays. If, in exceptional circumstances, you need to collect your child for a routine appointment during school day, please visit the 'Leaving During The School Day' page above for the procedures in place.

Some illnesses will require children to be absent from school for a short period of time. We understand that this can be unavoidable. For guidance on illnesses and absenteeism, please visit the 'Is My Child Well Enough For School?' page above.

We do not authorise the taking of family holidays during term time. If there are exceptional circumstances why your child cannot attend school, for example religious observances, medical appointments or other special circumstances, please contact the school prior to the absence so we can best advise on these. Forms requesting leave of absence, available from the school office, should be completed and  submitted in advance of the absence.

Attendance is closely monitored by the school's attendance team. If a child’s attendance is a cause for concern we contact families to offer support to improving this. Further information can be found on the page links at the top of this page.

If you would like to discuss your child's attendance please contact the school office to make an appointment where one of the attendance team will happily arrange to meet you.

Thank you for your continued support.

Please Note

Children in Year 6 take Standard Assessment Tasks (SATs) in the Summer Term. Requests for leave of absence will not be authorised during this period for Year 6 pupils. In Year 1, pupils have a phonics screening check in June – again, leave of absence cannot be authorised at this time.
