Science

As a school we believe that Science is about children being curious about things they observe and experience and allowing them to explore the world around them. They can then use this experience to develop their understanding of key scientific ideas and make links between different phenomena and experiences. We encourage the children to think creatively about science, ask questions about why things happen and enjoy trying to make sense of the world. Their learning in science will also support them in developing key language skills through talking about their work and presenting their own ideas. They develop the use of scientific and mathematical language and employ diagrams and charts to communicate scientific ideas.

National Curriculum: Science (DfE)

The national curriculum for science ensures that all pupils:

  • develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics
  • develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them
  • are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.
