Mr Togher

Forest School

The children have been very excited to start their Forest School sessions with Mrs Pallier! In their first week, the children made shelters in the Wildlife Area to protect the animals from the awfully wet weather which has left the area so very muddy. In the second week, they learnt to use a tool safely to whittle wood and tried to make a sharp point!

Forest School aims to support the whole child – their physical, mental and emotional development - and build on a child’s innate motivation and positive attitude to learning, offering them the opportunities to take supported risks, make choices and initiate learning for themselves, in a woodland or natural environment.

The sessions take place weekly, whatever the weather! As well as a suitable coat, we ask that children are provided with a pair of named wellies in a bag that can be brought into school on their Forest School day or kept in school if easier!

Seventies Day

Everyone looked fabulous when we celebrated the 1970s on Seventies Day! The children really enjoyed taking part in lots of fabulous activities including: tie-dying, dancing and singing to 70’s songs, making a Photo Booth and playing lots of retro games!

Our Christmas Crafts

We were very excited to be able to sell our Christmas crafts and bakes at the FOBS Christmas Fair held at the end of the Autumn term.

Our Experience Day At Alma Park Wood!

We had a brilliant experience day for our English unit in preparation to write our own poem, ‘Autumn is here' when we visited Alma Park Wood.

Forces & Magnets

Our science unit for term 2 is ‘Forces and Magnets’. The children had great fun trying to exert a variety of forces on ping-pong balls to move them to a partner, or to go in a cup without touching the cup or ball! We have also investigated whether the roughness of a surface affects the amount of friction produced and how this may affect how far a car travels.

Harvest Festival

At the end of term 1, we joined with Barasingha Class to welcome our parents and carers in to school to join us for our harvest assembly. The children did a brilliant job and sang beautifully! They thought about why we celebrate harvest in the autumn and why we support people who are less fortunate than ourselves. We are very thankful for the generous donations of food which we have sent on to the Grantham Foodbank.

Happy By Nature Live Online Lesson

Happy By Nature is a brand new schools programme, created by the World Wildlife Fund to encourage primary-aged children to learn more and be excited about the beautiful natural world around us and we were very excited to take part in the first live interactive lesson about forests with Steve Backshall. During the lesson we learnt what forests are, why they are vital for people and the planet and discovered what we can all do to help our forests thrive.

Singapore Noodles With Chef Darren!

The class thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the healthy eating workshop with Chef Darren from Roots To Food at the beginning of term.

They had a fabulous time as they practiced peeling, chopping and frying techniques whilst working as a team to create a healthy family meal - Singapore Noodles. The food tasted absolutely delicious - you can find the recipe in the photos below.

Afterwards, Darren commented, "It was a pleasure to return to Belmont. The children demonstrated terrific cooking practices, food techniques and nutritional value. The food theme was a huge success as almost all the children loved the food they created."

We're looking forward to his next visit!
