Sports Round Up Of The Term

This term kicked off with a fantastic achievement by some of our pupils. We had attended the Lincolnshire Sportshall Athletics Trials previously and we were extremely proud to say 8 of our pupils were selected to represent Lincolnshire in the Midlands finals. At the finals, our pupils were competing against other children from Leicestershire and Rutland, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, and Northamptonshire.  A lot of these children in the competition represent athletics clubs and train specifically for the event they take part in whereas for our children it was a completely new event for them and something they had only practiced since the trials. Our children represented not only our school, but the county brilliantly and we had some fantastic achievements on the day. I was very proud of each and every one of them.

This term our Year 4’s finished their swimming lessons and we had some brilliant outcomes. We also completed our final round of 'Aspire to Inspire' mentoring from Inspire+ coach Sacha. The children enjoyed all of their sessions and were able to make progress in their well-being throughout.

We have also been busy competing in numerous sports this term. We started with the Netball tournament, in which our children did brilliantly, coming 5th overall and being selected for School Games Fair Play Award, something we take lots of pride in as a school when attending competitions. We then had an opportunity for all of the girls in KS2 to take part in 'Let Girls Play', the FA initiative to get as many girls playing football as possible. The girls had the chance to take part in lots of different football drills and games with Inspire+ and it was great to see so many of our girls have the opportunity to get active, with 50 attending! Next up was the Girls football tournament where again we performed great as a team and the improvement in some of our players was unbelievable. The girls managed to score lots of goals and only narrowly missed out on the semi-finals, finishing joint 5th overall.

Hockey was our penultimate competition this term, with 2 teams from our school attending. Both teams showed great progression in what is a very tricky sport to pick up and play. The Year 6’s were able to implement the skills they learnt in PE last year and the Year 5 representatives showed they had learnt lots of new skills in the club led by one of our Young Ambassadors and will only progress further in PE next year. Our final competition is Tag Rugby which takes place on the last day of term, but we have been looking forward to this one for a long time as we have had our Tag Rugby club which has been very well attended all term.

Next term will see our summer sport competitions take place, with opportunities for KS1 and Year 3/4 to take part in some cricket, 3/4 Tri-golf, 3/4 cross country and our year 5/6 girls/mixed cricket competitions. We will also be entering the KS2 athletics competition for the first time this year. News regarding our second Belmont Football 5-a-side tournament will also be finalised early into next term, which I am very excited about.

Thank you for your continued support.
