Chinese New Year
This week, we have been learning about Chinese New Year. We have drawn animals from ‘The Great Race’, made Chinese lanterns and watched some dragon dancing! To conclude our learning, we had our very own Chinese tasting experience! We enjoyed trying lots of Chinese food; noodles, soy sauce, rice, vegetable spring rolls and prawn crackers! We had lots of thumbs up and even the comment “It feels like we’re at Chinese New Year!”
Winter!
What an exciting first day back we had after Christmas … we couldn’t have begun our Winter-themed week any better! We absolutely loved getting out and exploring our school in the snow … we loved spotting patterns in our footprints, making snow angels and snowballs, hunting for ice and finding lots of animal prints! We even discovered that, in our woodland area, our pond had completely frozen over! We have learnt so much about Winter already! βοΈ
Christmas Party Day
During the morning, we enjoyed playing many games (musical statues, musical bumps, pass the parcel, Christmas ‘corners’ and musical chairs!) and enjoyed a party picnic snack! At lunch, we loved pulling crackers and telling jokes before our festive party lunch in our classroom. During the afternoon, we joined the rest of the school on Teams to take part in the annual Christmas quiz! A wonderfully festive day to end the term! π
Giving To Others At Christmas
As we got closer to Christmas, in reception we spoke about how it is nice to give things to others at Christmastime, not just receive! So we worked together to make a Christmas card for the children at Sheffield’s Children Hospital. We each drew a Christmas picture to go inside our card, wrote our names inside, and have posted it to the hospital to hopefully make some children smile at Christmas! ππ₯°
Christmas Jumper Day
We loved showing off our Christmas jumpers on Christmas Jumper Day! During the day, we held our own Reception Class Christmas Jumper Competition! We had lots and lots of amazing entries … everybody spent such a long time on their design, cutting out their jumper and writing their name on the back!
We also enjoyed a delicious Christmas dinner in our festive jumpers too!
A Miracle In Town
What an amazing job everyone did in their first Christmas Nativity! Well done Reception! ⨔
It's Christmas!
Christmas has most definitely arrived in Reception Class! We have loved decorating our Christmas tree together whilst listening to Christmas songsπ, writing Christmas cards, letters to Santa π πΌ, wrapping presents π and making Christmas cookies with our cinnamon scented playdough! π Each morning two children open a new Christmassy story from our book advent… and enjoy a gold chocolate coin too! π« We also love to keep a close eye on our cheeky class elf… Elfie! ⨔
Children In Need
Everyone looked fantastic this Children in Need! π We spoke about how our money will be sent to help children who might not be as lucky as us. During the day we enjoyed a Pudsey story, some messy puddle painting fun and a spotty skittle experiment! A great day raising money for Children in Need! ππ§Έ
Remembrance Day
On Remembrance Day, each of us made a poppy to wear to our special assembly. We spoke about how we wear a poppy to show respect, and to remember the brave soldiers who fought in the war. Each child wore their poppy proudly π
Across the week we continued to create poppies in a number of ways, concluding with some collaborative art… a huge poppy field! Each of us added a poppy (or a few!!) in any way we chose… using pens, paint or crafting resources! Our poppy field looked beautiful!
We See A Fire Engine!
We were SO excited to have a visit from the firefighters who brought their fire engine to school to show us! They showed us what they keep inside their fire engine, the uniform they wear to keep themselves safe and then unravelled their hose to let us have a go at squirting the water!
Bonfire Night
We have been learning about bonfire night! We have learnt that lots of people let off fireworks on this night to celebrate the 5th November, so have enjoyed covering the playground in fireworks of our own! We ended the week creating our own rockets and making our own edible sparklers!”
Our Art Exhibition
Reception Class were very proud to host their very own ‘Art Exhibition’ to show off their amazing self-portraits! We LOVED inviting our grown-ups in to admire our work!
Footprint Friday
We were SO excited to head outdoors on our first ‘Footprint Friday’ of the year! We have loved exploring our woodland area; climbing trees, searching for mini-beasts using the bug magnifiers and building our own dens and campfires! We enjoyed our snack together sat on the tree stumps and listened so well to our new rules! We spoke about how to look after living things, how to carry sticks safely and how to spot nettles. We had so much fun outdoors together and are already looking forward to all the weekly outdoor adventures we’ve got to come!”
Our First Few Weeks!
Our youngest learners in Reception have had such a busy first few weeks at Belmont! We have loved exploring both indoor and outdoor environments with our new friends and making lots of lovely memories. We have enjoyed having tea parties in our home corner, getting creative in our ‘Art Studio’, searching for treasure in our indoor sand pit and baking cakes in the ‘Dough Kitchen’. Outdoors we have loved building dens, constructing vehicles using the crates and tyres and mixing Autumn potions in the water! As a class, we have already enjoyed lots of stories, dancing, dough disco and creating some large-scale artwork by mixing the coloured paints. I am so proud of how well everyone has settled in; it is lovely to see so many smiling faces already! π
