Visit To The National Holocaust Centre
We had an incredible opportunity to explore our themed work on World War II when we visited the National Holocaust Centre in Laxton.
During the morning we explored The Journey exhibition which is an interactive museum where we followed the journey of a young fictional Jewish boy called Leo by watching video extracts of him reading his diary. The children were able to look at, touch and discuss what they saw and how he might have felt as a young Jew in Germany. In the afternoon, the children listened to survivors, who came to England on the Kindertransport, share their stories. Our final activity involved placing a stone onto the living sculpture. This sculpture is growing and will represent all the children that lost their lives during the war. The trip was an incredibly powerful experience which the children accessed with sensitivity and compassion.
World book day 2025!
We had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day! After completing some fun English activities in the morning, we spent the afternoon sharing books with the children in Reindeer Class!
Perspective Drawing
We are spending time working on our perspective drawing. We have practised by drawing Belton House, looked at war art from WWII and are drawing our own versions.
Making Circuits
We have begun our science learning on electricity by drawing and making simple circuits. We then changed our circuits by adding/removing wires, bulbs, motors and batteries and predicted whether the circuit would work or not.
Christmas Fun!
We have enjoyed lots and lots of festive fun … making our lovely crafts for the Christmas Fayre where some of the class also helped with the stalls, leading the Christingle assembly, taking part in the end of term Christmas quiz and of course our end of term party!
Our Mechanical Toys
For our DT learning this term, the children were challenged to design and build a mechanical toy. You can see examples of the fabulous results below!
Learning First Aid
We had a great time learning some First Aid with Inspire+ where we practised how to bandage an arm as well as how to do CPR. Well done Taruca!
Children In Need
We enjoyed dressing in yellow and spots for Children in Need! Our maths session was fund raising problems where we had to calculate how much a variety of fundraisers made. We also made the most of a pile of autumn leaves! 🍁
Coram Life Education Visit
We were very lucky to have a visit from the Education Bus. We learnt about how the human body works and how to stay healthy.
Odd Socks Day
The children loved wearing their odd socks when we took part in Odd Socks Day in support of Anti-bullying Week! The theme of the day was that it is okay to be different and we spent time talking about why we are all special and how we can be respectful and friends with others.
Wonderful Whitby!
We had a fabulous time in Whitby! Staying at YHA Whitby, we were ideally situated for a walk round the Town Trail on our first afternoon and the children had a great time completing the Lighthouse Challenge after our evening meal. Our second day was particularly exciting as we went on the Big Yellow Boat for a cruise in Whitby Harbour followed by a visit to the Marine Discovery Centre in the morning then fossil hunting in the afternoon. We rounded off the day by going on a night walk around Whitby Abbey. Before coming home on the Friday, we had fun learning about Viking swords and shields. What a great three days!
Keeping Safe Online
Keeping our children safe online is a priority at Belmont and we were delighted to welcome Dan from the Lincolnshire Stay Safe Partnership who led an interactive online safety workshop with our class. The age-appropriate session covered areas such as making safer choices when going online; keeping personal information private; the impact of social media; knowing how to ask for support and reporting bullying or offensive behaviour.
Super Science!
Our work in science got off to a terrific start as we welcomed Nurse Nuala to Taruca Class at the beginning of term. The children worked very hard as they learnt about the heart and the importance of blood and blood vessels. They enjoyed making their own version of blood and then later testing their own blood pressure.
Amazing Art!
In art, the children have been focusing on the human body – learning to sketch using pencils and charcoal. They have then used this understanding, and inspiration from the artist Giacometti, to create some wonderful sculptures using wire, foil and modroc.
Improving Our Netball Skills
Every Thursday during term 1, we were joined by an Inspire+ netball coach who had us focusing on our footwork, passing skills and team work. The children really enjoyed the sessions and the progression in their netball skills was impressive.
A Great Start To The Year!
The children are settling well into their first term in Year 6 and we are really enjoying our Maths lessons on rounding!
