As you know, last year we were delighted to receive a bronze Green Tree Schools Award in recognition of all the work we do in school about caring for our environment, not only within our school grounds but also our local community. Throughout the last academic year, children continued to enjoy the outdoors; whether that be Footprint Friday in Reindeer Class, Forest School led by Mrs Pallier, lessons and storytelling in the Wildlife Area or in gardening club whose members also tend the Millennium Garden on Harrowby Lane. Children also experienced bluebell and snowdrop planting in Queen Elizabeth Park and hedgerow planting in Londonthorpe Woods.
We are very proud to let you know that we have now achieved the Green Tree Schools Silver Award! Organised by the Woodland Trust, schools are rewarded for doing environmental projects such as tree planting, reducing CO2 emissions and visiting woods. Forest School is already taking place this year and aims to support the whole child – their physical, mental and emotional development. It builds on a child’s innate motivation and positive attitude to learning, offering them the opportunities to take supported risks, make choices and initiate learning for themselves, in a woodland or natural environment. The children in Year 1, Fallow Class are very excited be the first participants and continue their outdoor learning adventure, following on from their Footprint Friday sessions last year.
You can see a selection of photos from their first session below - you can find more on the Fallow Class page by clicking HERE.
