It was a very busy final assembly of the term on Friday afternoon with awards for attendance and news from our 'Make £5.00 Grow' challenge. As well as wishing good luck to everyone in Taruca Class who are leaving us, we said a sad farewell to Mrs Nix and Miss MacLeod who are both moving on to pastures new.
Mr Allsopp was delighted to present ten children with awards for 100% attendance over the whole year, a terrific achievement! Our congratulations go to Billy, Harriet, Elizabeth, Eva L, Katie, Amy, Megan, Ethan, Laila and Lexi.
Each week in our Star Achiever assembly, we announce the winning class for attendance. On Friday, the winners for the term and for the whole year were celebrated. For the summer term, the results were: 1st place - Reindeer; 2nd place - Impala; 3rd place - Sambar. For the whole year, the results were: 3rd place - Impala; 2nd place - Fallow and 1st place once again Reindeer Class! What a brilliant start to their time at Belmont!
There was also a surprise for two members of staff during the assembly when they were awarded a special Superstar certificate for giving up their own time to sort areas of the school - well done Mrs Bell and Mrs Harrison!
This year, the school has been taking part in the 'Make £5 Grow' project, which aims to introduce children to skills they will need later in life; teaching them about teamwork, organisation, responsibility and using their initiative. The challenge given was to 'Make £5 Grow' by coming up with an idea and create some profit - and they did just that! With projects that included selling donated cakes, making jewellery and tie-dying t-shirts, the result of the challenge was eagerly awaited. Mr Allsopp was very pleased to announce the winning group were four members of Sambar Class who had the brilliant idea of selling ice lollies and made a fabulous profit of £99.00!
The assembly ended on a sadder note as we said farewell to Mrs Nix and Miss MacLeod who were both presented with cards and a gift from all of us. Mrs Nix has worked at Belmont for over 25 years as a teaching assistant, lunchtime supervisor, Breakfast Club and Early Bird supervisor and of course Table Tennis coach! Her dedication to the school has been phenomenal and we thank her so much for all of her work over the years. We wish her well in her retirement - no more very early mornings preparing breakfast for hungry children!
Our last farewell was to Miss Macleod who is leaving us to travel the world! She has been a fantastic and dedicated teacher at Belmont for 9 years and has actually taught the majority of children who are currently at the school. We will miss her smile and her enthusiasm as she inspired us to be the best we can be! We are very sad to see her leave but we are equally excited to hear more about her future adventures. She has promised to stay in touch!
