  • We Say Goodbye

Tue 25 Jul 2023 Mrs Shales

We held a very special assembly on Thursday afternoon to say farewell to Mr Davidson, Mrs Stivens and Miss Akhrass who are all moving on to pastures new.

Mr Davidson began by giving his thanks and best wishes to Miss Akhrass who is moving on to a new school and then to Mrs Stivens who is retiring after nearly 30 years of phenomenal service to Belmont. She has worked with every Headteacher Belmont has ever had and her hard work and immense dedication to the school over the years is immeasurable. It is difficult to imagine Belmont without her!

Mr Allsopp then took over the assembly as children from each class shared some of their special memories of Mr Davidson and he was presented with a book full of messages from the school.

Governor Mr Horan spoke on behalf of us all as he thanked Mr Davidson for leading the school through two successful Ofsted inspections and of course the recent Coronavirus epidemic. His tireless and dedicated leadership through challenging times has been inspirational and he has made Team Belmont the great school it is. He will be greatly missed by us all.

Both Mr Davidson and Mrs Stivens were presented with a beautiful painting created by all of the children in the school amid much secrecy! We wish them all the very best for the future and hope they come back to see us soon.

  • Belmont In The Community

Sun 23 Jul 2023 Mr Togher

This year, as I’m sure you could tell, we have had a huge push on our community aspect as a school by organising even more extra-curricular events for our children and community. We started with our Great Belmont Ramble in November - a whole school walk around Londonthorpe Woods, with a huge number of family members attending, all in aid of Children in Need. The support we received blew us away.

This was followed up with some football related events as the World Cup was taking place in Qatar. First, we all watched England’s opening match of the tournament and soon after we took part in Premier Education’s World Cup Penalty Shootout. This was a competition for schools where each class had the opportunity to play their own penalty shootout tournament. The scores of all the classes were then added together for one total. We were very pleased to find out we had won the tournament and were awarded 6 free coaching sessions for our children!

In December, we held our first ever Belmont Christmas Cinema event, showing 3 films voted for by the community, with sell out shows throughout the day/night. The year was rounded off with the FOBS Christmas Fayre which was again a fantastic event with great support.

The new year gave the children the opportunity to take part in Learning for Well-Being Week as well as Stand Up to Bullying. We also had a fantastic variety of book characters for World Book Day and celebrated Red Nose Day with a scene of green and red, as this year it fell on St Patrick’s day.

Another FOBS inspired event in March saw a visit from the Easter Bunny before another opportunity to get active for International Dance and International Circus Day. These two days were supported by Inspire+, with a coach coming in to work with the children. Parents were invited to come in and join their children for their circus sessions with some even getting involved in acrobatics and circus skills - it was great to see adults working alongside the children! For International Dance Day each class learnt a routine which was then performed for all parents at the end of the day and what a brilliant performance it was. During the term, we also held learning celebrations for Art, DT and Geography, which gave the children a great opportunity to share what they had been learning and show their fantastic end products.

Next up was the King’s Coronation picnic, with each class performing a British song as Year 5 took us through the life and times of King Charles. The performances were all brilliant and the amount of attendees was outstanding.

Our final events of the year were both sport related. First, the Togher Trials, our school funds fundraiser. The children took part in 5 activities throughout the week: boxercise, an obstacle course, football, running and a water butt race. This week also saw me take on the Togher TRIALathlon: a 25 mile bike ride, 3.5 mile run and a 1 hour swim (a total of 1,450m swam in the hour), with the money raised being split 50/50 between the school fund and Young Minds charity. A total of £1,125 was raised through the TRIALathlon! We then had our Sports Day, another event with an impressive turn out of support, with the children competing in a number of different races and activities.

Our final event of the year was the FOBS Summer Fayre. It was another brilliant achievement from them this year, with lots to do and take part in including the Belmont Talent Show which was unfortunately cut short due to the weather!

I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported or took part in any of the events and to the children who played a part in organising or helping; it wouldn’t be possible without you all. Next year we look to continue this and keep expanding all we can offer our children. I would be more than happy to take ideas for what events you would like us to offer so feel free to offer any.

What a busy but brilliant year we have had. I hope you have enjoyed it all!
    Mr Togher

  • We Say Farewell To Taruca Class

Fri 21 Jul 2023 Mrs Shales

The final weeks of the school year are always emotional ones as we prepare to say farewell to the children in Taruca Class. The last few years have had many challenges but throughout, the resiliance, kindness and hard work of the children has been impressive - they are true exemplars of what it means to be part of 'Team Belmont'.

After their fantastic performance of 'I'm an 11 year old - get me out of here!' last week, the poor weather meant that the planned barbeque had to be cancelled although this did not stop them having a super picnic together in class. Their much anticipated water fight also had to be rearranged - but what fun they had on Monday afternoon when they were all truly drenched!

This morning, there were a few tears as we gathered together in the hall to say goodbye. Mr Davidson and Governor, Mr Horan were very proud to present every member of the class with a gift from the school along with a special Leavers' Book full of messages and photos.

We would like to wish all of the class the very best as they take the next exciting step onto secondary school. They will always be members of 'Team Belmont' and we look forward to hearing all about their successes when they pop back in to see us!

  • Sports Round Up Of The Year

Thu 20 Jul 2023 Mr Togher

What another fantastic year of sport! This year, we have had 70% of KS2 attend clubs and 61 children represented the school in competitions. We have offered a large number of clubs this year including football, netball, tag rugby, fitness, cricket and rounders. The fitness club was led by our fantastic ambassadors who have yet again done me very proud this year, organising events, assemblies and active playtimes/lunchtimes as well as being fantastic role models for their class in sport.

Our performances in competitions this year have been phenomenal. We had 100% top 5 finishes in every competition, this included a 1st place in New Age Kurling and Tri Golf, 2nd place in hockey and a gold medal in the Year 3/4 cross country! We competed in: girls football, mixed football, netball, New Age Kurling, indoor athletics, tag rugby, hockey, 3/4 cross country, tri-golf, girls cricket, mixed cricket and rounders. We had huge successes in swimming this year from Years 3, 4 and 5 with a large number completing distances in their final swimming assessments.

We also held our first ever 5 a side football tournament, including a girls and a mixed competition. This a first for schools in Grantham and something we were very proud to do.

A huge thank you to all the parents who helped children attend events, supporting our children and our sporting events.

We were very pleased to be able to celebrate all of these fantastic performances at our Belmont Sport Personality Awards, our sports presentation evening. Within this event we had some individual awards: first of all the Walter Cobb Cup, awarded to Lily-Rose for her amazing attitude to sport, effort to improve and willingness to take part in every sport she has been asked to. We also found out our 3rd, 2nd and 1st place for the Belmont Sports Personality award, which is voted for by the children in KS2. Huge congratulations to Reegan (3rd place), McKenzie (2nd place) and Eliyana (1st place). All 3 deserved the votes and awards for their great work and effort representing the school in sport this year.

Our relationship with Inspire+ continued this year, with their coaches working with our children and taking part in opportunities like the Mini Olympics and the FA LetGirlsPlay, Ambassador visits and assemblies, Wake Up Shake Up sessions and mentoring workshops. We look forward to continuing to work with Inspire+ again next year with already lots planned in.

Thanks for your continued support and I already can’t wait to get going with sport again next year.

  • A Rockin' Afternoon At Belmont!

Wed 19 Jul 2023 Mrs Shales

We were excited to welcome the 6th form band from St George's Academy, Sleaford to Belmont yesterday! The Year 12 students are currently on a musical tour of schools as part of their work experience and played in the hall to a very excited audience who danced and sang along to the band!

We all had a great time and would like to thank the band members, Miss Vernon and Mrs Clifton for such a wonderful event. Come back soon!

  • 'I'm An 11 Year Old, Get Me Out Of Here!'

Sat 15 Jul 2023 Mrs Shales

The children in Taruca Class put on a fabulous performance of 'I'm an 11 year old, get me out of here!' on Thursday afternoon. With fantastic acting and singing, they were clearly enjoying themselves as they performed in front of their families in the fun version of 'I'm a celebrity'. They have worked incredibly hard over the last few weeks and we're very proud of them all for giving us such great entertainment!

  • A Wonderful Day At Belton House & Gardens

Sat 15 Jul 2023 Mrs Pallier & Miss Akhrass

The children in Impala and Barasingha had a great day at Belton House and gardens last week! After walking down from the Lion Gates entrance, we all had a brilliant time with the rain holding off soaking us until our last walk to the Lion Gates for home! Whilst at Belton, we had a treasure hunt and explored the gardens, the orangery and the wider park. We also did some natural art and of course the maze. Our final activity was the adventure playground which the children absolutely loved!
